It's Monday, What Are You Reading? (2/6/17)

Hosted by The Book Date

After my wonderful trip to Phoenix last weekend, I've got some catching up to do on reading updates; thankfully, I was able to enjoy quite a bit of reading during travel and have found what will likely be one of my most favorite books this year.

I finished both Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty, in anticipation of the premier of the HBO limited series on February 19, and my latest audio book selection, Tears We Cannot Stop by Michael Eric Dyson. While one is completely indulgent entertainment, especially since I do not have to deal with mommy politics, the other was enlightening and thought-provoking; a great combination.

And then, shortly after I arrived in Phoenix, I began reading We Were the Lucky Ones by debut author Georgia Hunter. I was introduced to Georgia by my friend Sarah (Sarah's Book Shelves) and I am so thankful. THIS BOOK IS A MUST READ. Get ready, because I'll be saying this a lot. I've already preordered three copies to give as gifts to friends, just because. I don't think I've ever done this before, nor has a book affected me this much in a long time. Okay, I'll save the rest for another post!

Thanks to a recommendation from Susie at Novel Visits, I'm currently reading The Animators, another debut, by Kayla Rae Whitaker. So far, it's been a great antidote to We Were the Lucky Ones; it has plenty of depth, and the writing is wonderful, but it is different enough from the former to be a sufficient hangover cure.

I'm catching up on some podcasts right now, so I haven't started a new audiobook; I'm impatiently waiting on the arrival of the new George Saunders novel, Lincoln in the Bardo (Feb. 14), since I've already preordered it from Audible.

There are a few books I have in mind after I finish The Animators, thanks to recommendations from some other readers like Sarah and Andrea (Born and Read in Chicago):

I hope you all have a great week! What are you reading?
